Yes Man.

Yes Man is a site designed for the purpose of parodying the Chevron advertisements. It relates greatly on what our next assignment is, to create a parody or a satire of an existing website. It proves to be quite interesting. The layout of the website is almost identical than that of the original, yet all the content is different. It is quite convincing as Chevron sent emails telling its viewers not to confuse their advertisement with the parody of it.

Free Culture - Lawrence Lessig

Lessig speaks of the copyright laws which now prevent the usage of material. In the beginning the law only covered little of the usage, now, it's coverage has expanded. The copyright laws now seek to protect creators by giving only them rights for its distribution. Disney, to create Mickey Mouse, borrowed steamboat willy. It was not a common thing to 'borrow' from other sources. Disney, had taken stories from the Grimm Brothers and remade this into their own creation which is now a most celebrated piece. Why then, have the laws restricted usage of ideas so much? It is for the main players in the media, the big business for the fear of competition.

Scenes from the Dreamhouse

David Hoffo is an installation artist who displays his work using videos. Whilst walking through his installations, the artwork gives the viewer the illusion of reality. The artwork, although are videos, look 3-D, as if they were, in fact, there. Many pieces are of rooms in a house. They are done in such a way that the viewer will almost walk over to the couch or chair, and take a seat. Each item is done is wondrous detail. Each room is displayed beautifully.

monstrosity of humanity.

I'd thought long and hard on a subject matter that interests me, and is important to me for my Remix Assignment. I decided on doing a piece on the horrors inside each human being. Each person is capable of doing things that they never dream they would be able to. Each person has a different person inside themselves, very much alike Dr Jerkyll and Mr Hyde. It is something no one can deny but only hide for only they themselves know the thoughts inside their own heads.

The movie, the Countess by Julie Delpy greatly influenced me in my decision. It is the story of Elizabeth Bathory, a serial killer whose motives are often debated and now become legendary and something of a fairytale. This movie speaks much of the psychology of humans when given immense power. Although many parts of the Bathory's story in this particular movie are fabricated it does its job in showing the monstrosity humans are capable of.

The book Blood Confessions is a novel on Elizabeth Bathory. We have all played the game Bloody Mary in our washroom mirrors, the game that calls on Mary who baths in the blood of children. This particular version of Bloody Mary is from Bathory's story. The story does stray from the actual historic facts, however it shows how humans are often the most horrid monsters within our world.
