Network Project
My network project is going to be on the topic of serial killers and psychopaths. This idea occurred to me when a friend asked me if I knew, Charles Manson and then proceeded to show me a video of his interview. My website will have a main page that welcomes the user into the site. From there, there will be several different buttons. One with a list of pictures of killers very much alike want-ads. Each of these pictures are links to a page with further information as well as links to external sites. Another button that will be from the main page will be a link to a page on the psychological explanation of how such people come to be.

Twitter, Facebook and social Activism V.S It takes a Village to find a phone
Twitter, Facebook and Social Activism talks about how activism is changed by the media. Once upon a time, the only way to induce activism from fellow citizens were to ask people, or use their social connections. However, with the use of the media, it has changed. Through using social websites such as Twitter or Facebook, millions of people throughout the world are able to access the same information. This is how protests started. It allowed for thousands of viewers to support a particular cause. With these social websites, organization of social events, such as protests, are much easier as anyone is able to join the cause through the website. Using social websites expanded the range of the audience giving their cause more power.
In It takes a village to find a phone, Gladwell shares a story of a lost phone which was recovered through the use of an internet web page. Through the web-page, the owner received encouragements from viewers on finding the phone. Viewers also pressured the police to retrieve the missing phone eventually leading to the arrest of the girl in possession of the phone. This story shows how the media is easily accessible by so many. Rather than in person, many things done through the media have much more of an effect. By posting the situation and problem on the internet, it allowed many people throughout the world to access and read.

Yes Man.
Yes Man is a site designed for the purpose of parodying the Chevron advertisements. It relates greatly on what our next assignment is, to create a parody or a satire of an existing website. It proves to be quite interesting. The layout of the website is almost identical than that of the original, yet all the content is different. It is quite convincing as Chevron sent emails telling its viewers not to confuse their advertisement with the parody of it.

Free Culture - Lawrence Lessig
Lessig speaks of the copyright laws which now prevent the usage of material. In the beginning the law only covered little of the usage, now, it's coverage has expanded. The copyright laws now seek to protect creators by giving only them rights for its distribution. Disney, to create Mickey Mouse, borrowed steamboat willy. It was not a common thing to 'borrow' from other sources. Disney, had taken stories from the Grimm Brothers and remade this into their own creation which is now a most celebrated piece. Why then, have the laws restricted usage of ideas so much? It is for the main players in the media, the big business for the fear of competition.

Scenes from the Dreamhouse
David Hoffo is an installation artist who displays his work using videos. Whilst walking through his installations, the artwork gives the viewer the illusion of reality. The artwork, although are videos, look 3-D, as if they were, in fact, there. Many pieces are of rooms in a house. They are done in such a way that the viewer will almost walk over to the couch or chair, and take a seat. Each item is done is wondrous detail. Each room is displayed beautifully.
monstrosity of humanity.
I'd thought long and hard on a subject matter that interests me, and is important to me for my Remix Assignment. I decided on doing a piece on the horrors inside each human being. Each person is capable of doing things that they never dream they would be able to. Each person has a different person inside themselves, very much alike Dr Jerkyll and Mr Hyde. It is something no one can deny but only hide for only they themselves know the thoughts inside their own heads.
The movie, the Countess by Julie Delpy greatly influenced me in my decision. It is the story of Elizabeth Bathory, a serial killer whose motives are often debated and now become legendary and something of a fairytale. This movie speaks much of the psychology of humans when given immense power. Although many parts of the Bathory's story in this particular movie are fabricated it does its job in showing the monstrosity humans are capable of.
The book Blood Confessions is a novel on Elizabeth Bathory. We have all played the game Bloody Mary in our washroom mirrors, the game that calls on Mary who baths in the blood of children. This particular version of Bloody Mary is from Bathory's story. The story does stray from the actual historic facts, however it shows how humans are often the most horrid monsters within our world.

The Web is Dead
The article The Web is Dead speaks on subjects true to majority of the people who have internet access. Rather than using your web browser to find an internet website, many go directly to pages such as Facebook, or Twitter. The popularity of the ever-successful IPod, and IPhone, has allowed people to more easily access websites without using the web browser. Users can simply download an IPod application, and at the touch of the screen, be directed to the Facebook page.
This article brought to me awareness of the life-consuming technology that we use everyday. Many would not be able to survive a day without checking their email, whether for their business, or to talk to friends. Our reliance on technology is all-consuming; if we were without technology and our media for just one day, our world would be chaotic.

Rob Sheridan: Favourite Artist
Rob Sheridan is a graphic designer, director, and art director. He is best known for his work with the band Nine Inch Nails. He began working for their website, and soon after took over as director and as their art director. Sheridan has his own, much distinctive style. A personal favorite is his print "Presents opening children". This particular print which had been described as weird, odd, messed-up, creepy and morbid by many individuals on the internet, attracted me. It depicts a family at Christmas, however, the family is in fact the presents. The gifts under the Christmas tree are wrapped in children. Morbid, indeed. Twisted, indeed. Beautiful, creative, imaginative, most definitely. This particular print emphasizes his sense of creativity and willingness to push past traditional art which is what I idolize most.
